Alfreton Community Forums

Introduction

Alfreton Community Forums is a social enterprise project aimed at promoting Alfreton Town and it's surrounding villages. It is part of the Alfreton Fellowship Enterprise Project.

There are a range of forums to choose from and most of the services are free. It's intentional to help local businesses promote themselves for little or no cost. If you find one site, you will also find in the navigational structure and menus, links to other sites in the project. Most sites have a very quick and simple registration process with a automated email verification system which takes about a minute to activate and gain access to the site.

Alfreton Business Directory allows local groups, charities and businesses to list their products, services, map location and contact information. It has a search facility that local people can use to find organisations by keyword, postcode, town etc. It is a free service.

Alfreton Events and What's On Guide is a free events guide for use by anybody holding any type of event activity. So if you run a regular club for chess or football, or your having a car boot sale or a competition or raising money for a charity, whatever it is that you wish to promote (including business sales and promotions) you can list it with no cost.

Alfreton History is an emerging project whereby local people can contribute historical information from their family, upload photographs and items of interest in order to create Alfreton's first historical archive and genealogy resource.

Alfreton Fellowship is the central site of all the Alfreton Community Forums. It's purpose is for local volunteers and professionals and groups to register and share information, ideas and resources. People or groups joining Alfreton Fellowship commit themselves to helping Alfreton Town and the surrounding areas in whichever way they can.

Alfreton Online is Alfreton's only forum for people to come together in real time and chat and exchange ideas, views, opinions and information regarding day to day issues that affect local people. The forum has several areas of discussion which is divided by forum categories - such as business, charities, local news, headlines, food, cooking, items for sale etc. It is also a free service and is great for posting messages that are of interest to local people.

Alfreton News is the latest service and again it is free to use. This site is a web 2.0 site and is extremely powerful for the user.

It is a free news publishing and news replication service. Once registered, organisations can upload press releases that are SEO rich in tags and information (you can hyperlink your website or blog too). The news items that are added are in a blog format and are XML/RSS compliant too. When news and information is added to the site it is then fed to other news sites within the Alfreton Forums Project instantly and, more importantly, the information is sent to thousands of RSS news reader and syndication services worldwide - Like Verisign, WebLog, PingBlog etc. This means that simply adding your news story or press release to Alfreton News will give it instant local exposure and worldwide coverage too at the click of a button.

History

Alfreton Community Forums actually started as a commercial concern in 2006 but was under a different guise. It originally was formed as a community magazine called Oracle News. Oracle News Magazine circulated throughout many districts of the Alfreton area for around 12 months.

The project owner concluded that it would be beneficial to local communities to publish in a different format which would be more accessible, environmentally friendly and would have an archive facility too. The decision to go "online" was made early in 2007. Oracle News was extended as a single delivery media into a multiple one through a number of website portals as listed on this page. Each website is run by volunteers and Alfreton Fellowship are always interested in supporting local people to join these online initiatives too as editors, publishers, researchers, promoters, artists, forum moderators etc. If you or your organisation would like to join, please contact Alfreton Fellowship.
